For those who haven’t seen it, Harvard economic historian Niall Ferguson has launched a crusade against Paul Krugman for hypocrisy, error and incivility. Links to the articles are below; they are worth reading just as a demonstration of the incredibly inflated opinion Krugman has of himself. Even if it were deserved, which is far from obvious, his endless self-congratulation is ugly. Maybe Krugman should hire a teaching assistant, or some other slave, to whisper “momento mori” in his ear as he is writing his pieces of the NYT. On the other hand, that might be giving him too much credit: I don’t see grounds for any kind of triumph.
